
I was commissioned to produce a replica of Elisa Schiapparelli’s Skeleton dress for the installation by Mai-Thu Perret.
As V&A archive room was temporally closed at that time so duplicating the piece from the images was only way.
This entirely black, silk crepe dress is cut on bias then old Italian quilting method, Trapunto is applied.
The process from drafting patterns to hand-stitching quilts, was fascinating to figure out how each detail had been carefully designed by the designers and the craftspeople in 1938.
